SWIMMING PIGS 🐖🐷🐽 🌴The Bahamas, more SWIMMING PIGS 🐖🐷🐽

🌴The Bahamas, more specifically the Exumas are famous for their resident swimming pigs.

🏴‍☠️No one really knows why they have been out here but there are a couple of stories floating around.

🥓One of them being that they were left here by sailors who had planned to come back and cook them (poor piggy’s) but never made of back.

🐟We even got to see stingsrays too (never did I think I would need a stingray and pig side by side with each other 😅)

⛵️There are a few boat companies that will take you to see these pigs and I went with @exumawatersports. I booked the half day tour which was $175 (you can book on a full day and also swim with reef sharks and see Pablo Escobars crashed plane). ✈️

Would you want to see the swimming pigs

✈️🧳How to pack using handluggage only!

💰If you hate paying the RIDICULOUS prices for checked baggage like me, then here’s how to pack with hand luggage only.

And yes I’m talking about week long (or more) holidays 😀

👗Pack a mix and match wardrobe- you get brand new outfits whilst using the same clothes

👠Pack 1 statement shoe plus a pair of casual ones

✈️Wear your bulkiest items on the plane- eg jumpers and jackets (think joey from friends). Try to wear your bulkiest shoes on the plane too.

🧼Decant toiletries into 100ml bottles and buy the rest of what you need at the airport. In fact, do an online order and get it delivered to the airport boots and you can pick it up after security

📦Use packing cubes to compress down your clothes and create more space in your hand luggage

🫧And remember, you can wash your clothes abroad!!

💰Here are my top tips on how to travel often but keep the costs down.

💙Be more flexible with you destinations and go to places that have the cheapest flights. ⬇️

My top tip for finding these is head to @skyscanner add in the dates you want to go and type in “EVERYWHERE” in to the destination box. @skyscanner will bring up the cheapest flights in ascending order.

💙Use deal finding apps like @jacksflightclub @travelzoo_uk @secretescapes @holidaypirates @voyageprive_uk to find deals on flights, hotels and holidays.

💙Avoid paying for checked luggage where possible. Try the clothes rolling technique, you’ll be surprised at how much you can fit in your hand luggage by doing this.

💙Don’t splash out on fancy hotels if you don’t plan on being in the hotel much. This for example could be on a city break, chances are you will spend most of the day exploring and use your hotel litterally to sleep and shower.

💙 If you are solo travelling, stay in a hostel. Meet people that you can do activities with , which can also help share/spread and cut costs.

💙 Get on to Google and find out the best free things to do at your destination.

💙Try to cook some meals where you can. I know part of travel is trying out new foods but if you are doing it often cooking one or two meals is a great way of cutting costs. Alternatively book accommodation that offers free breakfast as part of their package.

💙 Walk as much as you can to cut down on transport costs.

💙Alternatively if walking isn’t an option and you’re in a city, buy their local travel transport card (eg Oyster card for London). I’ve found that a lot of European cities have super cheap train/tram/bus costs and are even cheaper with one of these cards.

💙Rent a car. Renting a car can be sometimes miles cheaper than going on a package tour or excursion. Sometimes this isn’t the case but do your research first to see what’s your best option

Do you have any recommendations? 🌅🐬
TRAVEL OFTEN AROUND YOUR 9-5⬇️ 🟠 Obvious c TRAVEL OFTEN AROUND YOUR 9-5⬇️

🟠 Obvious choice but make use of the weekends. Fly out on Friday night and home Sunday evening. Really good to squeeze in a mini city break.

🟠 For longer holidays use the same method as above. Fly out on a Friday night and home the following Sunday. You can get almost 9 days away and only have to take 5 days off work.

🟠 Make use of your bank holidays. Tag on an extra day off around a bank holiday. For example around the Easter break.

🟠If you are flying on weekdays fly out late evening and fly home early morning so you don’t have to take those flying days off work.

🟠 Work from your holiday. Commit to working one or two mornings whilst you are away. This can help in saving up a few half days when you get to the end of the year. However this is probably not worth it on shorter trips

🟠 If you are able to travel with work. Make a holiday out of that by tagging on a few days holiday after the work trip is over.

Staying at The Box BNB – A Unique stay review

Ever looked at a shipping container and thought “wow, this would make a great home”? No? Me either, well, that was until I stumbled across the incredible BOX BNB in North Yorkshire.

So, we all know how clever Instagram is at targeting the right ads at you, and boy do they get it right every time. I found the BOX BNB whilst casually scrolling through Instagram and after a few moments of browsing through the BOX BNB page, I knew I had to stay here. So,  can you imagine how excited I felt when  I realised that I would have a chance to collaborate with this property? I had to pinch myself a little!

The whole experience at the BOX BNB was just lovely. We woke up to the sunrise from our bedroom window and drank wine whilst watching the sunset from the living room. In between, we chilled out reading books and drinking coffee, which was followed by a little exploring of the surrounding areas. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind.

So, if you fancy doing the same and want to know more, then read on below!

The BOX BNB

Who are the BOX BNB?

The BOX BNB lovingly covert shipping containers into stunning luxury boutique accommodation. At the moment the BOX BNB has 3 converted shipping containers which are all homed on a beautiful working farm in Malton, North Yorkshire.

The BOX BNB

How much does it cost to stay at the BOX BNB?

A stay at the BOX BNB will cost you £150 a night and you must book a minimum of a 2-night stay (such a great price for boutique accommodation of this kind!). The BOX BNB have 3 shipping containers available to book; these are the Duck Box, The Pig Box and The Rabbit Box.

What is there to do near the BOX BNB?

There is SO much to do near the BOX BNB which just adds to its appeal. The BOX BNB is located in Malton, on the outskirts of the North Yorkshire Moors. So, whether you prefer to spend your days in nature,  exploring new towns or you just prefer chilling out eating lots of food, then there is something for you to do!

Things to do near the BOX BNB:

  • Go Hiking in the North York Moors

Places to eat near the BOX BNB:

If you want to whip up a storm in the cabin kitchen and are keen on trying out some local produce, then make sure you head to either the Whole Hogg or the Horny Cow farm shops.

And if you don’t fancy cooking there are lots of restaurants for you to try:

  • Brandy Snap Bistro
  • Fox and Rabbit inn (This is some of the best pub food i have ever eaten, so cannot recommend coming here enough)
  • The New Malton Pub
  • The Post Office Tea Parlour
  • No.46 Bar and restaurant

Working from the BOX BNB:

If you are a remote worker then BOX BNB isn’t just a place you need to save for the weekend. The wifi here is super fast with a great connection, so if you just fancy a change scenery, or you’re fed up with looking at the same four walls, then the BOX BNB is a great place to work from. You will have ample time to explore the area in the morning, on your lunch break or when you’re done for the day.

An honest review of The BOX BNB

My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful time here. First of all, I have to comment on the decor, The interior is just stunning; modern, bright, spacious and a little bit of quirk thrown in. We both commented on how much we loved the bathroom and how we would be stealing some of the BOX BNB’s ideas for our own house!

The amenities/facilities here are also fantastic. You have everything you need for a perfect cosy stay including a wood burner, and a projector where you can watch some of your favourite films.  If you do decide to stay in all you need to do is grab some supplies from the supermarket. And you won’t need to worry about spices or seasoning for your cooking, because the BOX BNB has got you covered there.

I also got stupidly excited about is the fact they had provided the diffuser attachment for the hairdryer. If you have curly hair you’ll know the struggle and how most places NEVER EVER have this. I obviously had to comment on this, my blog is called “The Curly Commute” after all.

Despite all of the above, my favourite thing about my stay at the BOX BNB has to be the views and the nature. Each cabin has a floor-to-ceiling window in both the bedroom and the living room, that looks out across an open green field. In the morning we got to watch the most beautiful sunrise from our bedroom and in the evening the sunset from the living room. And, when it got really dark we were able to step outside and gaze at the stars, there is no light pollution here so views of the night sky are pretty spectacular.

So, what are you waiting for? Click here to book yourself a stay ;).
