HIKING ACATENANGO VOLCANO 🌋🇬🇹 🥾Here a HIKING ACATENANGO VOLCANO 🌋🇬🇹

🥾Here are all the details of the overnight hike below:

WHERE TO GO

🌉To start the hike you’re going to need to head to the town of Antigua in Guatemala. This town is incredible and I would recommend coming here whether you want to hike or not!

WHO TO GO WITH

♉️🐂@oxexpeditions
The cost of the hike with @oxexpeditions is $89. This can be more expensive than what you might find from the tour companies in the area but you really do get what you pay for and this is a top class service, and if I were to do it again I would 100% go back to OX.

WHAT TO PACK

🎒You’ll need to take a small backpack filled with lots of layers (it gets VVVV cold), lots of snacks, baby wipes, anti back, tissues and around 4 litres of water. Lunch, Dinner and Breakfast is provided by the tour guides.

🧦🧤If you don’t have a small backpack or enough layers, don’t worry as you can burrow these items from the @oxexpeditions office.

WHAT TO EXPECT

🍳You’ll meet with your tour group around 7am and head to a local cafe for breakfast.

🚗After breakfast you’ll drive an hour up to the starting point.

🏒Once at the starting point you’ll be able to rent a hiking stick for around 50p. I would highly recommend one of these, they are super helpful and I think it would have taken me a lot longer without it.

🎒You’ll also be able to hire a porter to carry your bag at a cost of £20 for one way.

🧗Expect to hike to base camp to take around 5/6 hours. Don’t worry, there will be lots of mini breaks and lunch in between. The first 4/5 hours of the trail are constantly uphill with the last 1/2 hours being ever so slightly easier.

🍫Once you get to base camp your guides will set up your tents, the camp fire and make a round of hot chocolate.

🌋If you feel like you’ve not done enough hiking you also get the option to Hike Volcan Fuego (which is the active one you will see erupt from base camp).

🥾This is roughly another 4 hours of hiking. You can prebook this part OR (what I would advise doing) can decide if you want to do it when you’re on base camp and pay after.

CANO ISLAND 🏝🇨🇷 🤿If you fancy snorkel CANO ISLAND 🏝🇨🇷

🤿If you fancy snorkelling/scuba diving whilst in Costa Rica then Cano Island is the place to go.

⛵️How to get there:

1️⃣Option 1: Stay overnight in Drake bay (close to Corcovado national park) and book with a tour company whilst there.

2️⃣Option 2: Do a day trip from the town of Uvita (1 hour from Manuel Antonio). This is the option we opted for as we were short on time. We went with a company called @bahiaadventures

If you want to Scuba over snorkel then pick option 1

What you can expect:

🐠Expect to see lots of colourful fishies, turtles, reef sharks, rays, dolphins and if you are there in season maybe even whales on the ride over

🎟Day trip experience:

⛵️We booked a 1/2 tour. Breakfast and lunch were provided. We had super knowledgable guides and got to spend 2 hours snorkelling and 1 hour chilling on the island.

✅Really enjoyed in and would recommend

🍃Quepos is home to Manuel Antonio National park

🐸Manuel Antonio is one of the most popular national parks in Costa Rica, so if you are looking to visit make sure you get in early‼️

💰Entrance to the park is ticketed and the admission fee is $18.08. Tickets a limited to day and time slots, so make sure you book your tickets in advance.

📆The Park is closed on Tuesdays and opening hours are from 7 am to 4 pm.

🌊If you don’t fancy visiting the park (we decided to skip) I would highly recommend spending the day at Playa Espadilla Beach (pictured here) 📸

Top tip: if you want atmosphere stay to the left of the beach but if you want to be completely chilled head to the far right of the beach!

The road up to Rio Celeste is very steep and riddled with pot holes so make sure you drive carefully!

💰Entrance:

There is a short hike to the falls. Once you have visited the falls you can go on further to the blue lagoon. Be prepared for some uphill stints.

📆Did you know you now need 3+ months on your passport to travel to the EU?

🔟Did you also know that the EU is also not accepting passports that are more than 10 years old (Picture 2)?

👩🏽‍🦱If you have a passport-like mine that has 10 years + months on it (picture 3 10yrs 5 months) then see below:

🌍Please follow the steps to avoid missing your EU trip:

💙Completely Ignore the expiry date on your passport
💙Count exactly 10 years from your passport issue date eg 18/04/12 = 18/04/22
💙The new date you have calculated will now be your actual expiry date in the eyes of the EU eg 18/04/22
💙Ensure you have 3 + months from that date on your passport before travelling to the EU

🔟If you have a passport that has exactly 10 years between issue and expiry date then its simple. You just need 3+ more months from the expiry date before heading to the EU.

🧠Remember this is for the EU only and it will be different for other countries outside of the EU

As a solo female traveller in the Bahamas in 5 days.

Don’t normally do these kind of posts but I’ve previously mentioned how I found this trip to be expensive so I wanted to be transparent with you!

🥲Get prepared to shed a tear when you realise this amount would have lasted me A WHOLE MONTH in Asia or Central/South America 😅

🛌Accommodation : £470 (this was the cheapest place I could find on the island)

🚗Rental Car: £120 (for two days)

🧾Rental Car insurance: £20 (insurance via 3rd party @questorinsurance)

⛵️Excursion: £130 (swimming pigs boat trip)

TOTAL SPEND for 5 days: £1090 😭😭

🌴Overall experience: PRICELESS (I’ve deffo stolen this from an old Mastercard advert 😅)

💳One thing that really helped balance out my spending was paying for my accommodation and boat trip a month or so before the trip!

🍔I also minimised costs by only eating out once a day.

👯‍♀️I also think I probably would have spent the same if I went with someone. I might have been able to share the rental car and accommodation costs but I also would have probably eaten out more and drank more cocktails.

What do you think of this total? 👇🏽
SWIMMING PIGS 🐖🐷🐽 🌴The Bahamas, more SWIMMING PIGS 🐖🐷🐽

🌴The Bahamas, more specifically the Exumas are famous for their resident swimming pigs.

🏴‍☠️No one really knows why they have been out here but there are a couple of stories floating around.

🥓One of them being that they were left here by sailors who had planned to come back and cook them (poor piggy’s) but never made of back.

🐟We even got to see stingsrays too (never did I think I would need a stingray and pig side by side with each other 😅)

⛵️There are a few boat companies that will take you to see these pigs and I went with @exumawatersports. I booked the half day tour which was $175 (you can book on a full day and also swim with reef sharks and see Pablo Escobars crashed plane). ✈️

Would you want to see the swimming pigs

Budgeting in expensive destinations 💰

🏝Let’s face it, some destinations just aren’t made for small budgets. but here are my top tips for saving money in expensive destinations.

🔵 Avoid resorts and Stay somewhere with cooking facilities (@airbnb is the best go to for this)
🔵Don’t eat out for every single meal and cook where you can
🔵 If you’re drinking cut back on cocktails and go for beers from time to time
🔵Try and pay for day trips and accommodation in advanced to spread out costs
🔵Rent a car (this can sometimes work out cheaper than taxis)

Do you have anymore budgeting tips?

PS Does anyone else find it ridiculous that beaches like this were so empty?!

Woodlands Glencoe – A unique stay review

Back in late October, I headed to Scotland for an 8-day road trip with one of my best friends. We had originally planned to camp but that idea soon went out of the window when we couldn’t find a campervan to book for our trip. After some deliberation on how we could still make this a camping trip, we decided to scrap it altogether and proceed to book hotels & bnbs for the week.

Driving from Loch Lomond towards Glencoe on day 2 of our Scotland road trip, we realised that we had forgotten to book somewhere to sleep for our stay in Glencoe. Whilst my friend drove, I browsed my second favourite site, booking.com (Skyscanner will always be number 1) to find us a place to stay.

Browsing through Booking.com nothing really caught my attention, until that is, I came across RiverBeds Luxury Wee Lodges at Woodlands Glencoe. I browsed through the pictures, and showed my friend and we both knew we had to stay there. We couldn’t believe our luck as places like this aren’t normally free, so we knew we had to snap it up quickly.

The whole experience at Woodlands Glencoe exceeded our expectations so, if you are looking for the ultimate luxury glamping stay in Scotland then Woodlands Glencoe is THE place to come. Read on below to find out all about it!

**Woodlands Glencoe have 2 offerings; Seabed’s and Riverbeds. This post discusses Riverbeds only.

Woodlands Glencoe

Who are Woodlands Glencoe?

Woodlands Glencoe is a family run business that has combined their passion for luxury and sustainability to create a stunning glamping experience.

Glencoe Lochan

How much does it cost to stay at Woodlands Glencoe?

Prices vary depending on season and time of booking but you can expect to pay around £450 per night if you book in advance.

If you leave it last minute like we did (which can be a risk) you can get a cabin for a heavily discounted price, from anywhere between £115-300 for the night.

Booking.com is a great way to find accommodation that you otherwise wouldn’t be aware of but the best way to get the cheapest price is to book directly through the Woodlands Glencoe website as they have a direct booking price promise.  This means that the cost will be the same, or cheaper than what you find on 3rd party sites, so make sure to book directly through their website.

Woodlands Glencoe

What amenities can I find at Woodlands Glencoe?

Woodlands Glencoe certainly aren’t lying when they call this a Luxury Cabin.

Here’s what you can expect to find inside the cabins:

  • Private Jacuzzi hot tub
  • Private riverbank veranda
  • Simba® hybrid mattress
  • Egyptian cotton bedding
  • Powerful eco cred, including air source heating
  • En-suite wet-room with toilet, shower & luxury soaps
  • Mini kitchen with microwave, mini-fridge, kettle, toaster
  • Fridge filled with Milk and Orange Juice
  • A complimentary breakfast basket delivered to your door in the morning
  • Glassware, crockery, cutlery, corkscrew & can opener
  • Nespresso® coffee machine
  • GHD™ hairdryer
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Free parking
  • E-Charging for your car
  • Incredible views and nature

An honest review of Woodlands Glencoe

I am a sucker to unique/boutique stays and I can honestly say that Woodlands Glencoe has made it to the top of my list of my favourite places to stay.

So what made me fall in love with this place so much?

First of all the setting; you are in the heart of Glencoe surround by such beautiful nature and wildlife and you can hear the calming sounds of the stream running behind your cabin which is just pure bliss.

Secondly, the sheer amount of facilities provided in the cabin. You can tell how much effort, thought and time has gone into ensuring these cabins ooze luxury, down to the smallest details.

And last but not least, the staff. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and the service was 5*. We had clearly gotten a bit over excited by the whole experience and finished our 2 bottles of prosecco within the first 2 hours. We called up reception to see if we could order another bottle and before we knew it someone was over to our cabin with another bottle and an ice bucket! What more could you want?

This was a truly memorable experience and I genuinely cannot wait to come back to this place. I hope this post has inspired you to book a stay here too. If you can’t already tell it’s a decision you won’t regret!

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, this is not a sponsored post, just a genuine review from a paying customer :).

If you stick around you can expect lots of destination and hotel inspo, as well lots of tips on how to save money on travel and get the most out of your time off! 🏩💰🇬🇹
