Hiriketiya is split into two sections Hiriketiya Beach and Dickwella, each offering a slightly different vibe depending on what you’re after.

If you want to be closer to the action, and near to all the bars and restaurants then Hiriketiya beach will be the ideal spot for you. This area is centred around a beautiful horseshoe bay that is known for its calm waters and beginner-friendly waves for surfers. The beachside vibe here is lovely with a mix of cafes, surf shacks and yoga studios that will make it difficult for you to want to leave.

If you are after a slightly more laidback vibe then Dickwella will be a good option for you. Dickwella has a more local feel, and it’s where you’ll find more rental apartments for long-term stays. The beach here is usually quieter and it’s Dickwella beach where you’ll be able to see the best sunsets in town.

Wherever you choose to stay it won’t be too much of an issue, Hiriketiya and Dickwella are just a short 5-10 minute walk from each other.

Each room comes equipped with a desk and private bathrooms, and in some cases, rooms even feature a patio where you can relax and soak up the surroundings.

Chill Vibes Hostel is the newest addition to the hostel scene in Hiriketiya set just 500 metres from Hiriketiya Beach. At Chill Vibes you can find both spacious and clean private and dorm room options. Dorms sleep up to 10 people and they even offer a female-only option for those who prefer. 

Nestled in a lush garden oasis this hostel offers the perfect opportunity to unwind and connect with nature. Guests can also enjoy free Wi-Fi, a shared kitchen and cosy communal spaces as well as surfboard rentals and yoga sessions for the ultimate mix of adventure and relaxation.

Each room features a queen-size, princess-style bed, an open bathroom with rainshower and natural homemade bath products and an incredible private terrace with a view of the Indian Ocean which makes for the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee at sunrise.

In addition to all of this, Mond also just so happens to be one of the best cafes in town, so you’ll have delicious coffee, pastries and even better food right on your doorstep.

It’s important to note that Mond requires that you stay a minimum of two nights, but honestly, I don’t think you would want any less because you’ll really want to soak up and enjoy this place.

Taboo

If you’re seeking a boutique escape with breathtaking views at a budget-friendly price, Taboo is one of the best places to stay in Hirikietiya. This hotel offers spacious rooms meticulously designed with minimalist bohemian interiors (much like a lot of the boutique hotels you’ll find in Sri Lanka).

The best part of Taboo has to be its rooftop terrace which doubles up as a yoga shala and
the perfect space to sip a sunset cocktail while taking in panoramic ocean views whilst looking out over the bay.

Here you can also find an onsite restaurant and bar that really completes the Taboo experience, serving fresh, locally inspired and international dishes as well as great coffee and cocktails.

Located 10 minutes outside Hirketiya on the peaceful Kudawalla Beach lies the beautiful Calma.

With just 5 double rooms, Calma is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for somewhere that’s relaxing and offers a little bit of peace and quiet.

Kudawella is typically much calmer (hence the name) than Hiriketiya, so it’s ideal for the more chilled traveller.

They also have an onsite yoga shala and regularly host wellness retreats as well as offering surfboard rentals and lessons. Oh, and they are located right on the beach so you can to wake up and go to sleep with the relaxing sounds of the ocean.

Even if you decide not to stay at Calma I really recommend heading down to the cafe and chilling at this beach for the day to do something a little different with your time in Hiriketiya.

La Playa

La Playa is the epitome of boutique luxury in Hiriketiya. For that, you will have to pay a slightly more expensive price tag, but if you can afford it, it’s oh-so worth it. 

The property has just 3 meticulously designed rooms all with large double beds. So the ideal place for couples, or best friends who don’t mind sharing. Each room opens onto a balcony overlooking the Bay so you can start every morning and end every evening listening to the gentle waves of the ocean.

Beneath the balconies, you will discover La Playa Beach Bar which in my opinion is one of the coolest bars in tow. Here you can sip signature cocktails on sun-loungers by the infinity pool or indulge in their famed wood-fired pizzas. Though this hotel comes with a higher price tag the experience at La Playa is worth every penny.
