Which is the best area in Hiriketiya to stay in?

Hiriketiya is split into two sections Hiriketiya Beach and Dickwella, each offering a slightly different vibe depending on what you’re after.

If you want to be closer to the action, and near to all the bars and restaurants then Hiriketiya beach will be the ideal spot for you. This area is centred around a beautiful horseshoe bay that is known for its calm waters and beginner-friendly waves for surfers. The beachside vibe here is lovely with a mix of cafes, surf shacks and yoga studios that will make it difficult for you to want to leave.

If you are after a slightly more laidback vibe then Dickwella will be a good option for you. Dickwella has a more local feel, and it’s where you’ll find more rental apartments for long-term stays. The beach here is usually quieter and it’s Dickwella beach where you’ll be able to see the best sunsets in town.

Wherever you choose to stay it won’t be too much of an issue, Hiriketiya and Dickwella are just a short 5-10 minute walk from each other.

Best Luxury Hotels In Hiriketiya

La Playa

LA PLAYA AT A GLANCE
⭐STAR RATING: 4
?AVERAGE PRICE PER NIGHT: $200+
?AMENITIES: POOL, RESTAURANT, BEACHFRONT
?IDEAL FOR: COUPLES, FRIENDS AND FAMILIES

La Playa is the epitome of boutique luxury in Hiriketiya. For that, you will have to pay a slightly more expensive price tag, but if you can afford it, it’s oh-so worth it.

The property has just 3 meticulously designed rooms all with large double beds. So the ideal place for couples, or best friends who don’t mind sharing. Each room opens onto a balcony overlooking the Bay so you can start every morning and end every evening listening to the gentle waves of the ocean.

Beneath the balconies, you will discover La Playa Beach Bar which in my opinion is one of the coolest bars in tow. Here you can sip signature cocktails on sun-loungers by the infinity pool or indulge in their famed wood-fired pizzas. Though this hotel comes with a higher price tag the experience at La Playa is worth every penny.

  1. Hi Christina,

I loved your review of Hiriketiya and I wanted to reach out to you for some advice given that this is quite a recent article you published. We’re looking to go to Sri Lanka in April and I’ve been researching a number of places to stay in Hiri and I wanted to get your thoughts on two places in particular that you’ve reviewed. I’ve made a temporary booking at both Mond and at Jasper House. We’re going to be going with our two girls aged 13 and 10 and my parents who are in their 70s! I was edging towards going ahead with Mond but I see that you’ve given Jasper House a higher rating. Do you think that may just be better? I think Mond is on a hill and my dad may struggle a little unless we take tuk-tuks… so I’d be grateful for any advice you have when you compare the two. Jasper House didn’t seem to be rated that highly on Booking but perhaps it’s not an accurate review and you may know more.

Thank you so much for any insights you may have.
    All the best,
    Ravini

    1. Hi Ravini,

I hope you are well, thanks for reaching out.

I think Mond is a stunning spot and I would 100% choose that over Jasper, however, you are correct regarding the hill. Also, their cafe and restaurant is up a set of steep-ish stairs. However, if you are happy to get tuk-tuks and your father would be ok climbing up a small set of stairs then it shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

Also, the Jasper house rating is meant to be a 3 (that is a typo from me so thank you for flagging) These are also ratings that I have found online, and not my personal ones.

      Hope this helps!
