A Little Insight Into MY Journey

My Solo Travel Story

My solo travel journey didn’t begin with some grand plan…it happened by circumstance.

It all started in Thailand, after three incredible months backpacking around Southeast Asia with two friends.

We’d had the best time, but eventually we hit a crossroads: one friend wanted to head to China, another to New Zealand, and I had my heart set on Indonesia.

Suddenly, I was faced with a choice: go home, or go solo.

At 22, the idea of traveling alone honestly terrified me but the thought of going back to rainy old England terrified me even more. I pushed past the fear, stepped out of my comfort zone, and It turned out to be the best decision I could have made.

And now, more than 10 years later, I’m still doing it. I’ve travelled solo through 40 countries and visited nearly 70 in total…proof that taking that first leap can completley change your life.

My Solo Female Travel Essentials

When it comes to travelling alone as a woman, you can’t eliminate risk completely, but you can have a few things in your back pocket to give you some peace of mind. Here are a few things I NEVER travel without:

Coverage for medical emergencies and unexpected travel issues. Having it means I don’t have to worry about what I’d do if something went wrong abroad. The best part is that you can renew it monthly, and you can take it out even if your trip has already begun.

Affordable mobile data as soon as I land is so handy, as it makes it easy to message family, check maps, or book transport straight away. These are brands I use time and time again (depending on the region I am travelling to and the type of trip). If you do find a suitable eSIM through Sim Local, make sure to use the code: INTHECLOUDS for 5% off.
