Honest Level8 Luggage Review: Is the Voyageur Collection Worth It?

Why I Chose Level8 Luggage

After travelling for over 10 years, I’d always gone for budget suitcases. And every time, I’d end up regretting it because something has always inevitably gone wrong, and always at the worst time.

Design & Aesthetic

The first thing I noticed about my Level8 suitcases was just how sleek and stylish they looked.

The Voyageur Checked 28’’ features both a top handle and a front handle, making it significantly easier to lift in and out of car boots or off the baggage carousel. And because of the distinctive colours and design, spotting my suitcase in a sea of black bags has never been easier.

Durability and Build Quality

If there’s one feature that convinced me Level8 was worth the investment, it’s the durability. These suitcases are made from German Makrolon® Polycarbonate, a material that’s both lightweight and incredibly tough. 

After years of dealing with soft-shell bags that have buckled under pressure, the difference was noticeable pretty quickly! 

For example, my old Samsonite Ecodiver duffel didn’t even survive a few long-haul trips. The zipper burst open while it was being checked in, and I was embarrassingly called over the tannoy to deal with my split bag.

Travel Performance

One of the biggest tests for any suitcase is how it performs when you’re on the move. With the Level8 Voyageur collection, I noticed the difference immediately.

The 360° silent spinner wheels roll smoothly through airports and train stations, and they even handled Europe’s cobblestoned streets without a problem. Additionally, because they move in every direction, you can easily manoeuvre the bag at any angle.

The carry-on size meets the requirements for most airlines, so my Voyageur Carry-On 20’’ has fit easily into overhead bins without any issues. For the Voyageur Checked 28’’, the built-in TSA-approved lock gave me more peace of mind when checking in my bag. 

Organisation & Packing Features

I’m a big believer that good packing is the secret to stress-free travel, and Level8 makes it easy. 

Inside both the carry-on and the checked case, the zippable compartments are extremely handy. Instead of clothes sliding into a messy heap, everything stays neatly separated.

I found it especially useful because on the most recent trips, where I have had to share the suitcase with my boyfriend (because airline prices for checked baggage these days are extortionate).

 Cons

• Higher price tag – More of an investment compared to budget brands (but you get what you pay for) 
• No exterior pockets – You’ll need to open the whole case to grab something quickly.
• Shows marks – The sleek shell does pick up scuffs; however, these tend to be cosmetic only.

Level8 vs Other Luggage Brands

I’ve tried my fair share of luggage over the years, and while some brands do a decent job, not all hold up to frequent travel. 

The clearest comparison for me was with my old Samsonite Ecodiver duffel. Whilst I did love that bag, on one trip, the zipper actually burst after I checked it in, and that moment really drove home the difference between a soft-shell bag and a durable hardshell suitcase.
