This Lisbon Sunset Cruise Was So Good I Did It Twice!!

Booking a sunset cruise in Lisbon sounds simple, but not all boat tours are created equal.

Some feel a bit too much like a party, while others are so laid-back they’re borderline dull.

And when you’re planning something special, or just short on time, you don’t want to waste an evening on a boat that doesn’t match your vibe.

After travelling to 65+ countries and doing plenty of touristy tours along the way and I’ve learned to manage my expectations…. But this one, run by a local company, caught my eye.

It had the right mix of everything I could want as a 30-something woman looking for a boat trip.

It was relaxed but not boring, nice and scenic, with music, wine (and beer) to set the tone, without turning into a full-on booze cruise (because unfortunately those days are over).

I liked it so much I booked it again 2 years later. First with my best friends back in 2023. Then again, with my partner this year (and the most recent time was just as good as the first).

In this post, I’m breaking down exactly why this is the Lisbon sunset cruise I recommend most also and sharing a couple of alternatives in case you’re looking for a different style of experience.

My Experience: Why I Booked This Lisbon Sunset Cruise Twice

I originally booked this Lisbon sunset cruise because I was after something a little unique to add to my Lisbon Itinerary, outside of the standard “ride the tram” recommendations.

I was after something low-key but still sociable. I didn’t want a rowdy party boat, but I also wasn’t up for two hours of awkward silence.

This one landed right in the middle. The atmosphere was relaxed, with a nice mix of people, including couples, solo travellers, and small groups of friends.

The music was at the perfect volume, and the crew were genuinely lovely.

There was even a small space on the boat where people could get up and dance if they felt like it.  I loved that everyone was just having a good time, without it ever getting too rowdy like some of the boat tours I went on back in my early 20s.

The first time I booked this boat trip back in 2023, I went with a few friends, where we chatted, soaked up the views, had a drink, and even joined in for a little dance towards the end (after a couple of wines).

Exactly 2 years later, I went again with my boyfriend. He’d heard me talk about how much fun it was the previous time I went, and was keen to see for himself and safe to say he was not disappointed by the experience (and that I hadn’t been exaggerating when I was talking about it).

If you’re someone who wants a scenic and easy way to enjoy the city from the water, this is a brilliant option.

And although I wasn’t solo on this trip, I’d absolutely do it alone. It’s the kind of experience where you wouldn’t feel out of place if you were travelling solo

What to Expect on the Lisbon Sunset Cruise

Whether it’s your first sunset cruise or just your first one in Lisbon, here’s what it was like on this Tagus River sunset tour, from start to finish.

Price & Seasonal Variations

The cost of this sunset cruise depends a little on when you’re visiting. Expect to pay anywhere from €25 to €40 per person, with higher prices during peak summer months.

If you’re visiting Lisbon in the shoulder season (spring or early autumn), you might find better deals, but either way, it’s excellent value for what you get.

Boarding and Departure

The meeting point was easy to find, just by the Santo Amaro Docks, beneath the iconic 25 de Abril Bridge. If you’re heading to the docks from your accommodation in central Lisbon, I recommend ordering an Uber to get you there as it’s both very reliable and very affordable.

There were staff greeting us on arrival, and check-in was straightforward. You don’t need to print tickets; simply showing the staff your e-ticket will suffice. They’ll also give you a free drink token that you’ll be able to claim once the boat has set sail.

The boat departs right on time, so I recommend arriving at least 15–20 minutes early to get a good seat. If you prefer being outside for the full experience (especially for photos), aim for one of the netted areas on the outside of the boat.

The Route and Scenery

The cruise begins by heading toward Almada, sailing past the famous Praça do Comércio and along the edge of the city. From there, the boat turns and heads towards Belém. The route takes you under the 25 de Abril Bridge, and continues past the MAAT museum, Belém Tower, and the Discoveries Monument before looping back to the dock.

Watching the sunset hit the underside of the bridge with the city glowing behind it is definitely a major highlight of the tour (I mean, this is what you’ve booked the tour for, right?)

And if you’re a bit of a plane spotting nerd like me, you’ll absolutely love seeing the planes fly overhead as they come in to land.

Music, Drinks, and Atmosphere

Shortly after departure, you’ll be able to claim your free drink token, where you can order any kind of soft or alcoholic beverage you desire (there are no restrictions).

If you do wish to purchase any additional drinks, this will come at a cost, but beers start at around €3.

One of the things I appreciated most about this cruise was the music. It was upbeat enough to create a lively atmosphere, but still low enough that you could hear your own conversations (I know, I probably sound quite old saying that).

The playlist was a good mix of modern tracks and the occasional nostalgic tune that had people getting up for a dance (yes, the Macarena will get played at some point on your cruise).

In terms of the crowd on board, there was a mix of ages and travel styles, from couples and solo travellers to small groups of friends.

Everyone was clearly enjoying themselves, but in a relaxed way. It never turned into a party cruise. It was just a genuinely pleasant way to end the day (and I can safely say this was my experience both times I went on the cruise).

Who This Cruise Is Best For

As I mentioned earlier, not every sunset cruise in Lisbon is created equal; some lean heavily into the “party boat” atmosphere, while others are almost too quiet.

But this particular tour strikes the perfect balance for most people, which is why I recommend it to a wide range of travellers:

Solo Travellers

Even though I wasn’t solo on this cruise, I’ve done it with both friends and my partner, and now know that I wouldn’t hesitate to go alone. It’s social enough that you don’t feel isolated, but not so lively that it feels awkward to be by yourself. The staff are friendly, and there’s no pressure to “join in” if you’d rather just chill and enjoy the views.

Couples

The sunset setting and relaxed pace make this a lovely option if you’re looking for romantic things to do in Lisbon as a couple. There’s enough space to have your own cute moment, and the scenery adds a very romantic touch, especially if it’s your first time in Lisbon together.

It definitely felt extra special experiencing this with my boyfriend, too, and a very different vibe from experiencing it with my friends.

Small Groups of Friends

This cruise was perfect when I did it with a group of friends. We could chat, take pictures, enjoy a drink, and have a little dance at the end and just genuinely enjoy ourselves without feeling pressured to join in with the dancing, etc.

First-Time or Returning Visitors

Whether it’s your first visit to Lisbon or your fifth, seeing the city from the water, especially at golden hour, offers a completely different perspective from what you’ll experience when walking through the city.

And speaking from experience, from someone who’s done this twice and wouldn’t hesitate to do this again, it’s certainly something you won’t get bored with.

🚤 Prefer a Bit More Space?
If this cruise sounds like your kind of thing but you’d rather have a little more room, the same company also runs a 2-hour sunset boat tour on a larger catamaran. It offers a similar atmosphere but on a bigger boat with more space to relax and a little bit more time to enjoy the sunset. This might suit you better if you’re travelling with a bigger group.

Other Sunset Cruises to Consider (If You Want Options)

While this sunset cruise is still my favourite, here are a few others to consider depending on your preferences. If you’re looking for something louder or quieter, these ones are good choices:

1. Sunset Boat Party Cruise with DJ and Open Bar

If you’ve landed here hoping for more of a classic “booze cruise” vibe, don’t worry, there’s something for you, too. This Lisbon Sunset Boat Party Cruise comes with a live DJ, open bar, and a proper party atmosphere. It’s ideal if you’re travelling with friends or just in the mood for a livelier evening on the water.

2. Sailboat Sunset Tour with a Drink

If you’re after an evening activity in Lisbon that’s quieter and more intimate, this Sailboat Sunset Tour could be the one for you. It’s limited to a smaller group, sails on a traditional-style sailboat, and also includes a drink. This one is ideal if you’re looking for a calmer way to enjoy the sunset without the bigger crowd.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Lisbon Sunset Cruise

Where does the cruise depart from?

The boat departs from the Santo Amaro Docks, directly under the 25 de Abril Bridge. It’s easy to reach by taxi, Uber, or even public transport. You’ll receive the exact address and map after booking.

How long does the cruise last?

The full experience lasts around 1.5 to 2 hours. It’s just enough time to enjoy the views, watch the sunset, have a drink, and unwind without taking up your whole evening.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes and a light jacket. Even in summer, it can get breezy on the river after sunset. If you’re planning to take photos, bring a layer that you won’t mind wearing in pictures.

Is there food or drink included?

A welcome drink (wine or soft drink) is included with your ticket. Additional drinks may be available to purchase onboard. This is not a dinner cruise, so it’s best to eat before or after.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, this cruise often sells out, especially in high season (May–October). Booking in advance secures your spot and gives you time to plan your day around it.

Is it good for solo travellers?

Absolutely. The atmosphere is friendly, relaxed, and welcoming. It’s not overly couple-focused, so you won’t feel out of place on your own.

👉 Book your sunset cruise now as slots fill up fast, especially if you’re visiting during high season.

Final Thoughts: Worth It? 100%.

I don’t often repeat travel experiences (because my bucket list is just so bloody big), but this Lisbon sunset cruise is an exception.

It was affordable, easy to book, and consistently delivered exactly what I wanted, which was a relaxed, beautiful way to enjoy the city from a different perspective, with just the right amount of atmosphere.

If you’re planning a trip to Lisbon and want to do something a little different, this is the sunset boat tour in Lisbon I’d recommend. I’ve done it with friends and with my partner, and I wouldn’t hesitate to do it solo either.

Can you please give me the exact name the sunset cruise you took? Was it a sail boat or catamaran? Also, how long was the boat ride?
